Today, May 4, 2019, my family marched in the Apple Blossom Parade in Wenatchee, WA, carrying banners for fallen hero's. My sister Kristine Humphrey had the honor of carrying Sgt. Gabriel G Deroo's picture. We are honored by his sacrifice and glad we could show honor to him today. If you find my facebook page, you will see her carrying his banner.

Miss you every day. This being the 12 anniversary of your home going shines a light in the gap that has existed in my heart since you left. Miss you nearly as much today as the day we first got the news.
You left behind a great legacy and many wonderful memories.
Much love,
Mom

I knew Gabe only during Basic Training in 2003. When I really got to know him was on Sundays, when a group of us would walk over to chapel services on Sunday mornings. I felt a bit ashamed, because, though I was, and am, a believer, I really was trying to get away from the barracks and the obligations there, and wasn't so much trying to get some fellowship with God or other believers. Gabe was there for the right reasons. He was so different, and that was so refreshing. his testimony in the way he lived was very much contrary to modern Christianity, which covers all of its lack of discipline and lack of true repentance in grace, and thereby cheapens the glorious necessity of grace. Gabe was focused on adhering to what was right, true, and good. And he wasn't going to be persuaded to falter, and then use grace as an out. So sorry for all of his family that are missing him today and everyday. I now that you're right in knowing that there is certainly a deficit in your community. But, I want you to know that Christ shone through Gabe, and there is no greater command, and no greater maxim for us to reach than that. We miss him, and we honor him this Memorial weekend. Thank you for sharing him with us.

Eleven years today since you've been gone, Gabriel; but somehow today your loss feels so strong. Maybe it's because I'm just starting a new journey in my own life, and I wish could share it with you. Miss you so much, but I cherish every memory I have of you. Love you more than words can say. Your littlest sister, PJ

This weekend I told Gabe's story to a group of Ukrainian soldiers in Ukraine preparing to deploy. Chris Rogers and I were part of a ministry team doing a special chapel service on a base here. They listened intently as they heard about the Gabe's faith and being willing to die first so others would have time to repent and how others did come to Christ in time. They also took copies of Gabe's story even though it was in English. I am sure they can get someone to translate. It is so great to see Christ working through Gabe's story and testimony.

We had the honor of meeting Gabe through his family at the Grand Ledge Football progam "Fallen Hero's". Our son was privileged enough to wear Gabe's name on his football jersey the night of 9-12-14. The opportunity presented to us will never be forgotten. Such an amazing individual, the TRUE definition of a Great American and A Great Christian. Thank you so much for sharing your son and brother with us. You are all an amazing family of faith and strength. May God Bless you all and may Gabriel rest in peace with our heavenly father for all eternity.

Had the wonderful opportunity today to tell your story, Iraq & the Legacy of an American Hero, to a couple of dozen police and fire chaplains. Some had heard about you but not the full story. Your integrity and care for Hannah had a big impact. I think it made a large impression on them and was very helpful to them in the ministry of comfort they bring from "the God of all comfort." (II Cor. 1). Your testimony goes on into eternity.

Even this week, on the seventh anniversary of your sacrifice for a people and our nation, God is still using you. This week 180 people in Iraq heard the truth of Christ and how God used you and can use them to teach the truth of the Gospel. Praise God!
